Zen Buddhism

Zen Buddhism -- involves the practice of meditation.  As more and more people begin to practice Yoga and Buddhism in the United States, we find meditation chairs to be a wonderful addition to our sacred space.  Every Buddhist practitioner seeks ways of prolonging their meditation experience. 

One of the greatest difficulties a Zen Buddhist will inevitably face is discomfort and pain within their bodies while engaging in seated meditation.  The physical practice of Yoga was actually incorporated many thousands of years ago to help train the Zen practitioner's body to endure the discomfort he or she would experience during seated meditation.  Yoga positions ultimately strengthen one's body so they may sit in complete stillness and silence for many hours on end. 

In the United States, the practice of Yoga and various yoga positions has become mainstream and used primarily for health and fitness and relaxation.  To train your body for meditation purposes would require an extreme yoga practice and it is a bit impractical to incorporate such a practice into our fast paced lifestyles.
